How I become a Medical Coder?

I used to work as a home based Medical Transcriptionist and General Transcriptionist. But having an internet connection problem pushed me to look for a job away from home and that lead me to training as a Medical Coder and eventually passing the certification to become one of the Certified Professional Coder from the Philippines.

How I started as a Home based Medical Coder?

I used to work as a Medical Coder from a BPO company which is in reality an hour away from my home place but due to traffic it became a 3-4 hours travel time including the traffic and waiting in line to ride the bus and the MRT train not including the unexpected MRT train and bus glitches and breakdown. Because of this I experienced less time at home, less time sleeping that made me think that I am making my body suffer. I resigned from my BPO job and started looking for a job at home that can augment my monthly expenses. The first two months was not easy that makes me think of accepting other jobs that I can readily do and also apply for online training that I know would help me land a job or two. Luckily on my third month, I was able to find rather the job found me. It is a Medical Coding job that I used to do in my previous company.

The challenge of HIPAA

Being in this is a Medical job, I handle medical information of the patient. Having said that, the United States legislation has a data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information. This is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). In this sense, I am working to protect patient medical records and other personal health information by having my bedroom as my office as to prevent family members to see my work.

I offer Medical Coding Services for the Emergency Department using Emergency and Management Coding, ICD-10 Coding, CPT Coding, Infusion, and Injection and Hydration Services Coding.
